We've talked about how oversized nightgown-looking dresses are the key to summer dressing. When I saw this pajama-inspired romper I knew I had to share. It's a little vintage, a little modern and a whole lot of cool. If a pj romper isn't your thing, I'm also loving this lavender dress... it would be the perfect choice for a summer wedding!

What is it about the oversized dresses that somewhat resemble nightgowns that I'm loving right now? They're completely unflattering, but for once, I don't care. Are you a fan?

Scale

Continuing to play with scale...
An oversized bag or tote is something I've been living in and with for the summer. Between trying to move into a new house and office, juggling paint swatches, online orders and snacks... my bag is always full. I need a big bag!

English

The bigger the better seems to be the motto for summer when it comes to dresses and apparel. Volume by way of balloon sleeves, tons of flowy fabric, over-sized bags... are you getting the picture?
I've been stalking this yellow dress from Target for weeks (like checking the website everyday kind of stalking). Finally, one day last week, they had my size and I snagged it as fast as I could. Much to my disappointment, it's sold out again... I wanted to be the bearer of great news so you could all grab one, too! Since it is sold out, I scoured the web looking for a suitable alternative and have come up with a handful of options. The tiered look is trending right now, so I would consider jumping on board. Do you dig it or hate it?

Crops

Lately, I've seen several celebrities dress in wide-leg pants and a cute crop top. While I think the ensemble is chic and summer goals, I'm not sure I'm daring enough to try it. For those that are, kudos!

Utility

Grab your tools... the utility look is huge right now. There are two simple ways to get the look: topstitching + pockets. That's all you need to look for and you'll officially be wearing the utility trend. Head to any major clothing website and type "utility" in the search box... you'll get a quick feel for the look. How killer are these shorts? I love them with an easy white blouse (preferably one with topstitching) and a western boot. For lack of a better word, it's nailing the utility trend.

Rules for executing the trend:
-Stick to a neutral color palette (denim, tan, ivory, army green)
-Keep the accessories natural (see yesterday's post for tons of ideas in the rattan/ wood/ pearl categories)
-Pair your utility look (preferably a jumpsuit) with mules or western boots
Here are some easy pieces to incorporate into your wardrobe to be on trend:

Spring Accessories

It's time to bust out the spring accessories. From a fresh pair of white sneakers (make sure they're spring ready with an espadrille sole) to the newest natural accents, it's time to lighten up. The key words to note are raffia, wood, acrylic, and rattan. Shop my picks below and head to my Spring Edit list on Amazon for more!

Update your beach (or pool) look with a fresh pair of slides. Again, think about this season's key elements... raffia & rattan.

If you're more of a sneaker girl, as we mentioned earlier, grab a fresh pair of white sneakers with a springy espadrille sole. It's the best of both worlds!

Rattan is going to be the hero of spring. Whether you incorporate it with a handbag, shoes, or earrings, grab a piece of rattan. It's a must!

To round it out, complete your look with a pair of acrylic hoops, a fun fringy tote, or a fun ring with a coastal-inspired ring (coastal shells and pearls are going to be what we're calling a "micro trend"). Shop my picks below:

What are your favorite spring trends?? Whether you're leaning more towards bright neons or something more natural, there truly is something for everybody this season! Happy Spring!

Neon

Roll your eyes if you must, but bright neons are the way for summer. So, how do we execute that now when it's a bit too soon for bathing suits? The good news is fuzzy jackets are still huge for fall 2019, so grab one in a neon color. Wear it now when the temps dip in the morning and at night. I've also put together some spring pieces to snag now that will keep you on trend in the neon department. Don't wear them all at once... maybe one piece at a time?

What is it about a freshly cut watermelon paired with the color yellow? It's the most complimentary color combo and oozes that cheerful feel of summer. Eat up!

Nantucket

With the 4th falling in the middle of the week, it seems like the past week has been a vacation. Nobody seems to be working too hard. Let's take the time to enjoy a slower week and spend as much time as possible with friends and family.

Southampton

I've been color crushing on yellow lately. While it's not a color I'm usually drawn to, it seems to be screaming summer more than any other color and I'm a fan of that. It pairs well with a pop of coral (like these earrings) and great straw accessories.

Martha

With the 4th of July just around the corner, I'm already seeing stars (and stripes). It's the one time of year where you can get away with  everything USA related without it being slightly tacky. Load up on  the matching sets, the coordinating stripes and red, white and blue! Grab this straw tote to carry all your picnic essentials while you're at it.

Summer Sunday

Can we all rejoice that wide leg pants are not only the best thing ever, but they're now the biggest trend of the summer? Can I get an amen?
I found this cute pair at Nordstrom and have lived in them since I purchased them. They're super lightweight and pair well with heels or flats. Are they cropped? They look that way on the model, but with my short legs, they hit at about my ankle (I'm 5'7" for reference). I'm embracing the in between length...

Art

There's been an emerging trend this season of really sculptural pieces, especially in accessories. They almost look like art with their modern shapes, clean lines, and interesting textures. At times, I've looked at pieces and had to ask exactly what it is.  Cult Gaia is championing this trend with their super artistic handbags (especially this one) and this belt... I'm trying to figure  out what outfit I can wear it with. Gray Matters is another brand hitting the market with graphic pieces, like these mules

May Market

Today is the "last day of spring".... or so they say. It's felt like summer for weeks now with the high temperatures and even more miserably high humidity. One positive thing the thick air brings is luscious fruit and veggies! Everything is at its ripest. The colors at the farmers markets are vibrant. The flavors are just as good.

What's your favorite part of summer?
