The other day, I talked about how much I love illustrating the bride during her wedding ceremony. At times, though, I'm either in the  bridal party or playing another role that prevents me from illustrating on the spot. In this case, it was an intimate ceremony without wedding  programs and only close friends and family. This time, I opted for a post-
wedding illustration on her invitation. I framed the invite and presented it to her at a later date (I technically had a year to complete the job, right?).  The whole idea of illustrating on wedding invitations started when I saw a framed wedding invitation at my grandfather's house. It was in fact from
his wedding to my late grandmother, and a dear friend of theirs had  watercolored the front with the wedding chapel where the ceremony  took place. I loved the whole idea behind the gift and soon began to  copy. What started as illustrating wedding chapels has evolved into just the bride herself in my signature BFP voice on the couple's wedding invitation. I think it makes a unique keepsake, a special
way to highlight both the dress and the wedding details that brides spend so much time coordinating.

A custom illustration of a cute bride-to-be that we created invitations from. The perfect personal touch to what can be a bit repetitive bridal world.

One of my favorite things about weddings is not only the cake, but when it's a friend of mine, I will pick up the pew pen and illustrate the wedding dress on the spot. Yes, I'm not 100% paying attention during the ceremony, but I hope the bride at least appreciates the end result. This was from a few years ago, but it was a dear friend from  high school's wedding, and her dress was stunning!

Summer Bride

When you're trying to illustrate a generic, brunette bride to include in the collection, you end up going through a few different versions. This was one of those versions that never made it to the printing floor, but she's still pretty as a princess...

Throwing it back one last time to William & Kate's wedding... which one of Kate's looks was your favorite: the ceremony gown or the reception gown?

Ms. Markle

Pretty as a princess she is. Who else is super excited for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle? I love all things pertaining to the Royal Family, so this was such a welcomed surprise yesterday morning. And, of course, we're all dying to have that coat. It's sold out, as expected, but rest easy... I found some great alternatives. Shop my white coat picks below:

Ohhhh to be married in France! I loved bringing this bride's vision to life... her international nuptials were to be a smaller event with a more inclusive
party back home after the wedding. Wishing I could've been on the invite list for this one. Congrats to the newlyweds!

One of my favorite things about weddings is the cake, let's be honest.
Ok, but on a serious note, the best part is usually the bride's entrance.
I get chills every time (and sometimes tears), but it's that moment that
usually takes everybody's breath away. And, yes, we all take a peak at
the groom to see his reaction, but for the most part, all eyes are on the
bride. As a wedding attendee, my go-to wedding gift is a custom
illustration of the bride in all her wedding day glory. While it's been
a slower wedding season this summer, the few that I have been to have
been perfection in every way. Take a peak at two of my brides from this

A garden party bridal shower? Yes, please. I loved using the
venue as a springboard to create this custom illustration for the
lovely bride...

I love working on custom illustrations of brides (sometimes including the
groom, but only sometimes). I think it's such a fun way to capture the big day
and all of the bride's favorite details, whatever they might be. In this case, the custom blush gown with a very couture bow, the exposed brick in the background juxtaposed with chandeliers dripping from the ceiling with a pop of a black & white dance floor. Overall, the details pretty much looked perfect. Congrats to these two!

The most effortlessly stunning bride in the most picturesque garden
setting made for the perfect inspiration. The dress, the flowers, the
venue.... the entire event was perfection. Congrats to Ellen + Paul!

Let's chat about a wedding that made my boxwood-loving-heart go wild. A boxwood wall with statement mirrors as the backdrop for the ceremony, the cutest clutch to carry after being announced as Mr. & Mrs., a detachable skirt that became a party dress for the reception, I mean.... I could go on and on. I had more fun flipping through the photos from this one. No detail was missed. The bride's look was perfection, the groom was dapper in a blue suit instead of the
traditional black tux... need I say more? I had so much to pick from and get inspired by for their custom thank-you notes.

How To Make Custom Wedding Favors

I recently volunteered to help my mom take food to a bride-to-be on her
big day. Wedding day food has become almost like hosting a shower.  Every detail must be thought out. The colors have to match. There needs to be personal details. The water needs to be room temperature as to not have condensation that will drip on freshly steamed dresses. I mean... the things we do. Everyone at some point in their lives will be a bride, bridesmaid, maid of honor, delivery team for day-of food, bridal shower hostess, etc. So, listen up...
Here's an easy way to make a statement with a personal touch for
the bride to be on her big day.
We ordered these cookies from a local Nashville girl. She's cute as
a button and her cookies are literally a slice of heaven. We paired them with a pack of notecards from the bridal section of my website. We picked up clear bags at a local party store and a spool of gold ribbon to complete the look!
You will need:
-wedding-themed cookies
-clear bags
-hole punch
-black ink pen
Step 1: trim notecards to just the illustration
Step 2: punch one hole in top corner of the notecard
Step 3: add the couple's wedding #
Step 4: insert cookies into clear bags
Step 5: loop ribbon through single hole and tie around bags
There you have it. A quick and easy way to add personal touches to the day-of food delivery. Don't forget to arrange them in a basket (one that you will most likely not see again, so don't give away your favorite!) for a cute sweet treat.

Wedding Invitations: DeCario

When requests come in for custom wedding invitations, the answer is almost always no. This request felt different, though. She wasn't wanting all the extra envelopes and enclosure cards (reply cards, directions and maps, etc.). We were on the same page in terms of keeping it simple and playful. This sassy bride and groom went
for a light-hearted approach that I love. Wishing these two nothing but the best as their big day approaches!! I can't wait to see pictures!

Bridal Shower Invitations: O'Toole

Because you need more than one bridal shower, right?
This was a fun project to work on for a DC-based bride that lives a stones-throw away from the Capitol and works on the Hill. She's wearing her something blue for her bridal shower and carrying her favorite handbag while posing in front of her centrally located townhouse.
Best wishes to this bride who's wedding day is quickly approaching!

Bridal Shower Invitations: Ginny Brown

Sometimes, I have the privilege of illustrating people I know. When that happens, it takes longer, but it's fun bringing their personalities to life through an illustration. This was for a family friend who was recently married in Nashville. Every detail was planned and executed perfectly. I loved working with her family on this one as a special surprise for her!

Save the Date: Arelis

Nothing thrills me more than working with a newly engaged couple on custom Save the Dates. You can feel the excitement coming through their emails and their eagerness to send them out as soon as possible. Save the Dates have become just as important (and time-sensitive) as the wedding invitations themselves. With our never ending busy schedules, it's important to get both out in a timely manner.
This project was a joy to work on. The Miami-based bride wanted to include snippets of the Miami skyline, but we also wanted to throw in a nod to the ceremony location. Best wishes for this future Mr. & Mrs!!

The sweetest bride and groom...

August 25, 2016

When a groom reaches out wanting to surprise his bride with a custom illustration, clear the schedule! I mean, literally, I think it's the sweetest thing when a guy is
requesting an illustration for his significant other, so the answer is always yes!

When the bride and groom include their beloved pup in their big day, they have to be a key player in the illustration, naturally.
