Girl, you deserve this...

Brittany Fuson, fashion illustration, international womens day, girls, rainbow
Today, March 8th, marks International Women's Day, a day we celebrate women instead of trying to compete with them. While I won't get political, let me say you are awesome. You are perfect just the way you are... don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Tell someone else that today! We could all use an extra boost of encouragement, especially from our sisters in this crazy thing called life.
Let's celebrate each other today with a special coupon code. Treat yourself! You deserve this. You work hard. You try to be everything for everybody. Take a minute to pick something out for yourself. Better yet, why not send a happy to a friend (we can add a note to any order... leave your message in the "special instructions" box during checkout).
Use code women20 for 20% off your entire order. Code is limited to a one-time use per customer and expires at 11:30pm CST on 3/8/19.

A sweet pink bow is a lovely choice for a cold winter day. Cheers to a second cup of coffee kind of day!

Jenny Red

When Jennifer Lopez's stylist posted a photo of her in this look, it was another reminder that she is in fact aging in reverse. I mean, could she look any better? I'm trying to fight the signs of aging as early as I can, but I still want to know what her secret is. She's flawless in a natural way. Her body is on fire. Basically, she is goals...

This seemed like the perfect illustration to post as I'm packing up and heading to NYC for a few days. Her name is Tribeca and she's sporting the color of the month, green.

Happy March!

A Sight for Sore Eyes

Brittany Fuson, blue light-blocking glasses, technology, fashion illustration
There's been a recent uptick in self-protection in every category from sun exposure to technology. As one of the lucky ones with 20/20 vision, staring at a computer screen all day can take a toll leaving me with headaches and tired eyes at the end of the day. I've been curious about blue-light-blocking glasses and their effectiveness, so I ordered some! While the jury is still out on how well they work for me since I've actually been on my computer less this week than usual, everyone else is raving about them!

Thanks to free refunds on most in this list (from Amazon), I ordered approximately 10 pairs to find the perfect frame for my face. The three pictured at the top are all the same frame in different colors and ended up being my favorites (the pink and clear being my top two... I mean, if we're going to do this, let's do it with an unexpected frame shape). I liked all of the ones listed below and was really hoping the over-sized black ones would be just what I was looking for. However, as someone with a wider face, they were almost too big. Keep that in mind...

Hot Pink

While we were thinking the color of the year would be a bright, punchy coral the Oscars said otherwise. Hot pink was single-handedly decided as the color for spring. While the occasions for which you might need an evening gown are limited, there's always a reason to pick up a more casual dress in THE color of the season. I've put together a list of six of my favorites ranging from daytime casual to cocktail. Happy shopping!

Oscars 2019

I don't know if it was because the sun finally came out or because the celebrities had the recent couture shows to pull from, but last night's red carpet was maybe one of my favorites. I was hoping and praying that someone would wear hot pink and to my surprise pink ended up being the color of the night. Everyone wore it from Julia Roberts to Angela Bassett, but nobody wore it quite as well as Crazy Rich Asians star Gemma Chan in this (or THE) Valentino couture gown I have been dreaming about for weeks. Gasp...

You know I've been color crushing on lilac lately, so to see Emilia Clarke in this sparkly Balmain number was such a breath of fresh air. Pale lilacs and pinks also reigned supreme last night. Kiki Layne's exaggerated back detail was another gasp-worthy moment. I mean... and let's not forget Kacey Musgrave's pink confection that looked sweet enough to eat.

I had to throw Charlize Theron in the mix in this dusty blue Dior, because let's face it, she's the Oscars red carpet queen. She pops up out of nowhere and looks effortless but over the top chic. She knows she should be there. Everyone else take note.
Brittany Fuson, fashion illustration, red carpet, celebrity, live illustration, oscars 2019, charlize theron
Other favorites of the night include Regina King in white Oscar de la Renta (we should call her Regina Queen because she really looked like a queen in that dress... perfection). And GAGA. Do I need to say more? The Tiffany diamond, the custom black McQueen gown, the gloves... girl knows how to show up. And I definitely watched her performance with Bradley Cooper two (or maybe 4) times. It was everything I had hoped it would be and more. I'll leave you with this... can we never have an Oscars host again? I found it to be so peacefully politic-free and focussed on what it should be focussed on... giving out awards to deserving people.
What were your favorite moments?

Lilac Green

The forecast for spring is looking bright! One color combo I'm keeping my eyes on is lilac and a deep emerald green. It's fresh and perfect for the transitional months ahead. Another thing I've scoping out is sneaker trends, because let's face it, I LIVE in sneakers these days. I want an updated, clean, bright white pair that isn't as broken in as my go-to Golden Goose high-tops.
A trend I'm seeing emerge is velcro. I guess we're taking inspiration from the children's department, because velcro sneakers are now must! I've scoured the web for my favorites and will list them below. Grab a pair, wear them now, keep wearing them throughout the summer. One thing is certain... you don't have to deal with unruly shoestrings.

Reading List

Brittany Fuson, fashion illustration, Paris, reading list
We aren't quite into the longer days of spring, so I'm still craving cozy nights in. BUT, I need something to entertain me. A good book is sounding like the answer, so what are you reading? I plowed through a few books at the beginning of January. Now I'm wanting to start something fresh, uplifting, rom-com-ish, you get the idea. Feel free to send recommendations my way!

The Spring Collection

Brittany Fuson, new arrivals, spring collection, Orca, tumbler
The dark, dreary days of January and February have us craving brighter colors, warmer weather and the fresh blooms of spring. While we still have to endure a few more weeks of winter, we're springing forward without looking back. Our Spring Collection is surely the cure for those winter blues. It includes four new cup designs, a handful of new notecards, two new luggage tags, two new greeting cards (one specially for the graduate), and new gift tags. Basically, we have your spring occasions covered (think spring birthdays, Spring Break travel, Mother's Day, graduation, end of the year teacher gifts).
Our large gift tags were such a hit at Christmas that we decided to introduce several year-round options. Grab a handful to keep on hand for those last minute gifts (tie one on a wine or champagne bottle and your gift instantly looks more thoughtful. They also work well tied on a gift bag). You'll thank us later!

We also have a sweet treat just for you... since it's the day we celebrate love, why not treat yourself? It sounds like a brilliant idea to us. We're going to sweeten the deal even more with an apparel and greeting card sale. Both categories have amazing deals that you don't want to miss including greeting cards as low as $1 and half-price sweatshirts. Stock up while you can!
Happy Valentine's Day!

While I'm not a huge tv binge-watcher, this dreary weather has forced me indoors with little activity other than The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. Who's watching it? I watched the first two seasons in about a week and have been on the edge of my seat waiting for the next season to drop, though I think we have a while before that happens. What's not to love about a show with a female powerhouse as lead and a pre-Carrie Bradshaw closet to drool over.
This is my interpretation of a 2019 version of Midge...

I've recently been working on new designs for spring. In the process, I've found myself increasingly inspired by Chanel, both old and new. It's a classic brand, one that will never go out of style. For some reason, I'm craving the classic tweeds, quilting details and cap-toe shoes. It never gets old, does it?

Pink Boots

There are days when my to-do list is simply one non-glamorous errand after another. On days like this, instead of conforming to the expected errand attire, I like to go big. I'll throw a fuzzy jacket on with jeans so I feel like I'm going somewhere more important later, even if it's only to the dermatologist.

Living Neon

I spent the first 14 days of 2019 in a paperwork daze. It's time to reemerge and knock out 2019 in style! I think we should all just go for it this year. Buy the snakeskin boots. Wear the neon beanie. Don't apologize for being you. Who's with me? See more of my thoughts on this here >>

My final thoughts on the Golden Globes...
I want to take Lucy Liu's gown and make it into a sequin bomber for every day wear. I would wear it with distressed jeans, a plain white tee and booties. How can we make this happen?

Golden Girls

The Golden Globes are always an exciting event to watch because it kicks off red carpet season. You get an early look at what will be trending this spring. One thing I noticed was a handful of bold jewel tones but a lot of soft pastels, lots of pale pinks and neutrals. Softer fabrics and unfussy hair styles ruled supreme. It appears that feminine details and an over-all softer look are what we're going for and I couldn't be happier about it. And can we talk about Julia Roberts? I mean.... Queen.

I feel like there's an understood rule that we're supposed to live in athleisure throughout the month of January, or maybe that's just me. I'm over heavy sweaters (especially when the high tomorrow is nearly 60), I'm trying to workout more, and I just don't feel like sitting all day in tight jeans. So, if we're keeping it casual for a few weeks, why not look extra while doing so? Shop her look below.

Happy New Year!
I can't believe we're already in 2019. There are times when I feel like the clock is speeding up when what we really need is for it to slow down. Let's make this year our best yet, shall we? Let's make time for friends and family. Let's be present by putting our phones away for a bit. Let's be nice to each other and have more compassion in this tumultuous world we live in. Wishing you a happy Happy New Year!

Bow Back

Not sure what to wear to a holiday party? A fun and flirty cocktail dress with a touch of sparkle by way of a fun bootie or accessory is a great choice. This dress looks incredibly comfortable and would take you throughout the year with the ponte knit fabric. It's also available in a handful of colors, so go bold or stick to a classic black.

Do you dare to wear a graphic sweatshirt with a sequin skirt? Maybe for your office Christmas party? I think it's cute, has a little splash of sparkle and is conservative enough that your boss won't cringe. Not to mention these pumps... Meghan Markle wore them and I think they might just be the perfect pump.
